The CP551 course was very useful in a way of imparting knowledge to students. I personally enjoyed it very much, because it was unlimitedly storming knowledge and knew way of thinking.
I very much appreciate the effort you've taken to bring the most contemporary things to us. It was covering a wide spectrum with a lot of colourful and very fresh ideas. And the art of teaching you had in teaching this course was excellent and very much entertaining. I would say that enjoyed this very much than the first year thermodynamics.
Also attitude and approach towards sustainability was very well shown out and it indeed made a great change in my lifestyle as well. Specially since what you taught came from your heart, it ignited the curiosity in students mind. Some other students also told me so.
One thing if I'm going to critisize is that you might have considered the limitations in practicing sustainable development in a techno world. Because you were critisizing things which of cause made us to think, but sometimes may be impracticable in industries where there is a need to cater for the consumer requirements and expectations. Also, I very well understand that it's very difficult to draw a clear boarder between sustainable and unsustainabe technologies. But I would very much appreciate if you include some ideas / ways to practise sustainability in a country like Sri Lanka which is rapidly running into unsustainable trends. Also, it's good to introduce a section on EIA and other legal aspects as well.
Also, I'm very much impressed by the concern you had on this general elective subject which many other general elective teachers don't do or may be they can't do which also might be a reason why the students do not show any interest in those subjects as general electives. I'm happy that I, atleast did one good general elective in this faculty.
Finally, I would like to convey my sincere thanks to you for offering this subject on our request and elevate our state of living to a different sustainable level.
Thank you once again.

After the exam,i can now relaxely comment:)..well CP 551...lot to say about it..in one word "Interestinggggg"...the content was
really interesting...I felt sometimes that the world is going to end very soon as we are in grave danger...we are using nothing in sustainable manner...sometimes, i was happy as we at least can go back to the periods of our granny where we can enjoy the dinner under the bright moon light surrounded by lot of trees...(of course, i dreamt little during the class without concentrating.:)..)

couple of suggestions:

1.not all people like to dream as I did..so try to add more positives so that students won't get afraid of the subject.

2.better to have more interactive sessions than lecturing. because this subject needs people to TALK!

Nothing is coming to write..:(
Best of Luck and thanks a lot!

CP 551 course actually comprises very important topics. It was really interesting but, the workload is bit high for us. If there is a possibility to reduce the workload, students will really enjoy as you do.

Dear Prof. Shanthini,
Excellent materials on your website. I am not your student -still I could'nt resist appreciating your dedication and line of thinking. I was randomly searching for some docs on Industrial Ecology and stepped on yours.
Simply superb...especially your slides on sustainable development, is something out of the blue - remarkable - I dont find words to say anything more.

Keep going and enjoy making better engineers and better citizens of the earth

Regards,

Prem
